Ministry Of Labour – Occupational Health & Safety
The Occupational Health and Safety Act sets out the rights and duties of all parties in the workplace. Its main purpose is to protect workers against health and safety hazards on the job. The Act establishes procedures for dealing with workplace hazards and it provides for enforcement of the law where compliance has not been achieved voluntarily.
Professional Engineers of Ontario
Professional Engineers Ontario licenses Ontario’s 70,000 professional engineers, grants temporary, limited and provisional licences to practise professional engineering, and authorizes businesses to provide engineering services to the public. It sets standards for and regulates engineering practice. Under the Professional Engineers Act, its statutory mandate is to serve and protect the public interest where engineering is concerned. Rigorously educated, experienced and committed to a Code of Ethics that puts the public first, licensed professional engineers can be identified by the P.Eng. after their names.

The Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS), formerly known as the Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA), is at the forefront of health and safety working with and bringing together industry, workers, governments and communities in identifying, eliminating and managing workplace risks that can result in premature and preventable injuries, disease and death to our precious human resources, as well as preventable losses to our organizations and communities.

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) oversees Ontario’s workplace safety education and training system, provides disability benefits, monitors quality of health care, and assists in early and safe return to work.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is part of the United States Department of Labour. It was created to assure safe and healthful working conditions by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.
National Fire Protection Association
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) develops and publishes codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and effects of fire and other risks.
The American Society of Safety Engineers
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) ‘promotes the expertise, leadership and commitment of its members, while providing them with professional development, advocacy and standards development. It also sets the occupational safety, health and environmental community’s standards for excellence and ethics.’
Canadian Society of Safety Engineering
The Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) ‘is the leading health, safety and environmental organization for professionals in Canada. They work with industry, governmental agencies, and other safety organizations to promote a greater awareness of health, safety, and environmental issues in workplaces and communities across the nation and around the world.’
